Helpful Suggestions For Women In Abusive Relationships

1.                 Take time to PLAN an emergency escape.

2.                Keep MONEY saved to use for escape.

3.                Make extra KEYS to the car and the house; keep them in a secret place.

4.                Keep IMPORTANT PAPERS (i.e., birth certificates, insurance documents, etc.) with you.

5.                Keep extra CLOTHING for yourself and your children in a safe and secret place.

6.                Keep a list of EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS.

7.                Remember:  DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS A CRIME.  You have the right to report to the police.

8.                Once you reach a safe place, DO NOT DISCLOSE your whereabouts to your partner.

9.                If, for any reason, you need to return to your home to get your belongings, the police can provide protection.  Request a “KEEP THE PEACE” Order

10.            Make contact with someone who is empathetic to you situation.  IT IS OKAY TO ASK FOR HELP!
